Escape Room Comparison

Blackout vs Phobia

Dubai’s escape room scene is packed with unique offerings, and Blackout and Phobia represent two extreme ends of the spectrum. Whether you’re into brain-teasing logic puzzles or intense, horror-filled storytelling, your ideal room depends on what you’re truly after.

This analysis compares both companies across key factors to help players choose based on verified experience and public information.

Price vs Experience: Is the Extra Worth It?

Phobia offers affordable  rooms starting around AED 125 per person. What you get are high-quality puzzles, realistic sets, and minimal distractions. It’s the thinking person’s escape room — no gimmicks, just brainpower.

Blackout, on the other hand, is priced slightly higher but is an experience, not just a room. You’re paying for actors, lighting effects, physical interaction, jump scares, and scenes straight out of a psychological thriller.

Verdict: If you’re into classic puzzle-solving, Phobia is the budget-friendly and satisfying pick.
But if you want thrills, fear, and something unforgettable, Blackout is 100% worth the extra.

Immersion & Fear Factor: Are You Ready to Be Scared?

Let’s be clear — Blackout is not for the faint-hearted. I did their “The Basement” room, and it’s like stepping into a horror movie. You’re blindfolded, separated from your team, and the actors don’t hold back. Screams, sudden grabs, eerie silence — it’s a full-body experience.

Phobia, by contrast, is immersive in a different way. I played “Sherlock” and “Vault 13” — the storylines are thoughtful, and everything unfolds logically. You feel like a detective. It’s intense, but not scary. Perfect for families, couples, or anyone who wants a more cerebral challenge.

Verdict: Want fear, adrenaline, and live actors? Blackout wins.
Prefer story, challenge, and thinking over screaming? Go with Phobia.

Group Types: Who Should Go Where?

If you’re going with a group of horror lovers, thrill-seekers, or looking for a unique date night, Blackout is perfect. You’ll bond through fear — trust me.

For mixed groups, families, or team-building, Phobia is safer. It’s welcoming, calm, and focused on puzzles over panic.

Verdict:
Blackout = adrenaline-junkie friend groups, thrill dates.
Phobia = puzzle lovers, logic fans, and corporate groups.

Customer Service & Environment

Phobia has professional staff who walk you through everything clearly. They focus on your comfort and let the puzzles do the talking. It’s polished and friendly.

Blackout is more mysterious — even the intro is part of the act. Staff are in character, and you never quite know what’s real. It adds to the tension, but if you’re nervous, it can feel overwhelming.

Verdict:
Phobia is smooth, calm, and very customer-focused.
Blackout is immersive but intense — part of the story from start to finish.

Winner: Phobia
